Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is not exactly a tough sell. Besides the director's brand name, we haveJohnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, an enormous budget along with Walt Disney banner, which all but guarantee this thing is going to be huge.
That said, the first trailer, which debuted on IGN and was promptly ordered down by Walt Disney World, makes an obvious bid to quell concerns that the movie will be a creepfest a la Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There is a heavy emphasis on computer-generated whimsy, some of which looks majestic, and some of which, frankly, needs a little more work.
Oddly, the trailer also seeks to establish the Alice origin story we all know rather than offer specific insight into Burton's vision. There's plenty of time for that (the movie doesn't open until March 5, 2010), so for now, we'll take what we can get.
